ACLD Austin Commercial Lock & Door

Austin Commercial Locksmith Expert

Master Key Systems

Custom hierarchical lock frameworks that give executives seamless multi-tier access while restricting unauthorized entry to secure zones. Designed, installed and managed for Austin's most demanding commercial facilities.

Key Hierarchy Levels

Structured access for every tier of your organization

Each level of a master key system is carefully planned to match your organizational structure. From grand master keys that open every door to individual change keys restricted to a single lock, every credential maps to a specific role and clearance level.

Grand Master Key

The highest tier in the hierarchy. Opens every lock across the entire facility or campus. Reserved for the chief security officer or senior facilities director, typically one or two keys exist in the entire organization. Manufactured on controlled, restricted keyways to prevent unauthorized duplication.

Master Key

Opens all locks within a department, floor or building zone. Held by department heads, building managers and senior custodial staff. Each master key is assigned to a specific organizational unit and restricted to that unit's doors; no cross-zone access unless explicitly authorized.

Sub-Master Key

Opens a subset of locks within a master key zone, such as all offices on a single floor or all classrooms in a specific wing. Used by supervisors, lead technicians and team leads who need broader access than individual staff but should not have department-wide clearance.

Change Key

Opens a single lock or a small group of identical locks. Issued to individual employees for their specific office, suite or workspace. Change keys cannot open other doors in the facility. If a change key is lost, only one or two cylinders need rekeying — the master hierarchy stays intact.

Key Management Protocols

Control your keys, control your security

A master key system is only as secure as the management practices around it. We establish clear protocols for key issuance, tracking and recovery. Every key in your system is accounted for — who holds it, what it opens and when it was last verified.

When an employee leaves or a key goes missing, the impact is contained. Our hierarchical design means you rekey only the affected level, not the entire facility, keeping costs proportional to actual risk.

  • Signed key holder agreements with individual accountability
  • Key issuance and return logs with date, time and signature
  • Annual key audits reconciling every issued key against the system
  • Restricted keyways preventing unauthorized duplication
  • Lost key protocols with contained rekeying at the affected tier

Organization Applications

Master key systems by facility type

Corporate Campuses

Executive grand master keys for the C-suite, department masters for each business unit, and change keys for individual offices. Guest suites and shared conference rooms on separate sub-groups for controlled visitor access.

Educational Institutions

Faculty masters for academic buildings, administrator masters for operations areas, and restricted custodial masters that exclude sensitive spaces like records rooms and IT closets.

Healthcare Facilities

Strict separation between clinical zones, pharmacy storage, patient records and administrative offices. HIPAA-aligned access control through segregated key hierarchies with documented accountability.

Government Buildings

Classified area isolation through independent key groups, cleared personnel masters with audit trails, and mechanical key systems that do not rely on network connectivity for secure areas.
